It has great flow so it's really easy for him to suck out the water. It is not leak proof. If your kid holds it upside down water will leak out. These are wonderful water bottles! My kids and I love them very much! However, It was really sad that we found them leaking badly. Luckily we found the root cause - it was me who didn't take close look at the bottle. There is a little air hole so that kids can suck the water out from the bottle. And inside the lid, the other side of the hole got plugged by a plug. The plugs of our two bottles were CLOSED, causing it impossible to suck. What I did is that I removed the plug completely, kids could drink the water but it leaked a lot from the little air hole.
