(I think a kid or an elderly may need 2 hands to open it) It's long but you still do have to bend unless your 4 ft tall. The thing about these scoopers is that metal springs rust and eventually break, especially when left out in the weather. But I do plan on leaving this outside because who wants a poopy claw in the house! If I get a year out of this I will be happy. I'll update this when it breaks.

The handle and pull are built very sturdy and seems like this will last forever. Plus, we live in snow area and it has gotten below freezing and this plastic did not crack or chip like other scoopers. Would buy again if this breaks, but I dont think this one will break in a very very long time. Very satisfied!
