This thing has some serious weight behind it. It definitely feels like it'll do a ton of damage if swung at full force in terms of self defense. Now the main question is whether or not it'll break. Just as a reminder - nothing is indestructible. Given enough force, it won't surprise me if you could get it to break if you really wanted to but in terms of average person using it once or twice for self defense, you should be just fine. One solid swing to the head and it'll definitely give someone a quick trip to the ER. I wouldn't recommend this is a primary or even secondary self defense weapon but if you don't like guns or are afraid of knives or mace (first I'd recommend you to rethink that), this really is your only other option and it's a solid pick at that. Can't go wrong, the price is solid for what you get. My only complaint is that the “grip” isn't super grasp and maybe even just a tad slippery but the bat really shouldn't go flying out of your hands. I'd say go for it.
