At first it seemed kinda complicated to use but then i got the hang out it. You simply put the filter block in the water and pump the water into a cup. Definitely recommend to my hiker friends as it's decently priced compared to other water filter systems.

Tip that I read from another reviewer is that you should put a sock (clean or unused if possible) over the end of the filter that goes in the water to filter a bit more of the sand or any larger debris in the water. Small and lightweight is perfect for emergency or camping situations.

I am a youth leader and am always on campouts and hikes with descent sized groups. Often we cannot carry enough water and rely on water sources and filters to go the distance. I am not a fan of killing bugs with lights and chemicals and drinking them - just mentally not my favorite. I have tried several water filters and am a fan of this one. My last one of $80 broke when needed and I don't know that I could have afforded a new filter when it came due anyway. Much cheaper than the katadyn but I don't notice a difference. I like the air pump style. I like the concept of the grayl push top, but some youth just don't have the strength to use it once much less fill bottles for a small army. Easy maintenance when done - disassemble and dry. Solid float feature. Even comes with a cute little built in compass. I wouldn't know if it is as clean as advertised without any testing, but seems to be pretty good.
