One complaint I read about before I ordered is that they don't cancel out much background noise. Most people with moderate to severe hearing problems will need to bump the volume up (slowly) by two or three notches at least to achieve optimal hearing. One final point: you can eavesdrop on conversations dozens of yards away if your volume is set nearer the top level. I'm not making any suggestions, just stating a fact.
